It has been steady nice being able to after 20 years peek a series that I remember getting up early before school to peep. The animation may not be as top-notch as things that are coming out now, and the myth line may be kind of lame, it is tranquil a helpful memoir. It was one of the first anime shown on american tv that actually kept most of the whole series intact, without letting the american cenors at it, which as those of us that examine toonami on cartoon network know about what they do to a series. I am really looking forward to being able to complete this series, and to hopefully continue on and earn the next two series. Also it would be nice if they released the Japanese version with subtitling on to dvd so I could stare how the new series went.
Star Blazers: The Quest for Iscandar Allotment IV, contains episodes 14-17 (out of 26) of the first season of the cult-favorite Americanized Japanese Anime series from the early 1980’s.
For the uninitiated, here’s a rundown of the space. In 2199 Earth was under attack by an “nasty” alien hurry called the Gamilons. The Gamilons bombed earth with “planet bombs” which destroyed the planet and emitted high levels of radiation, thus driving mankind into underground cities. In one Earth year the planet would become uninhabitable. Queen Starsha of Iscandar offers mankind hope in the earn of the Cosmo DNA which would cure all mankind from the radiation sickness. She sends Earth a message along with remarkable technology that will allow mankind to go to Iscandar to accumulate the Cosmo DNA. Earth’s youngest and brightest arrive together to produce Star Force to go to Iscandar to pick up the Cosmo DNA. Their faithful battleship is the Argo, a renovated WWII era navy battleship remade into a Starship. There is fair one minor dilemma though, Iscandar is 148,000 Light Years away. No one has ever traveled that far before. More importantly, the Star Force only has one year to fade there and abet for a total of 296,000 Light Years…
The memoir picks up steam as the Star Force ventures throughout deep dwelling battling unknown menaces as well as the Gamilons. Perhaps the greatest enemy of all though is the crew’s occupy psychological health. In addition we also gaze some remarkable character development among our heroes.

Voyager continues to fabricate leaps and bounds with each DVD volume. This volume by far has the best make in terms of navigation and mask originate compared to the previous volumes (particularly the pitiful Fraction I) . The audio and video quality is also vastly improved from the previous three editions.
Included in the DVD special features:
1.”An Overview of the Gamilon Empire.” Beautifully designed and rendered you can contemplate and learn more about the Gamilon Empire. The history part provides a substantial background yarn including WHY the Gamilons declared war on Earth. You can also browse through profiles of the Gamilon characters, ogle at drawings/pictures of their dwelling vessels, weapons, mecha, etc. In all, this is, in my conception, the best DVD special feature yet (except for maybe the Yamato clip from Allotment II) .
2.Yet another shameless sail for piece 5.
Here’s my rundown:
Great: The Gamilon Empire Overview in the special features part. Star Blazers itself.
Good: Improved navigation.
Sad: The continued shameless plugs. (Of course, you can’t blame though…)
Overall, this is the best installment yet in the series. The “Gamilon Empire Overiew” has a particular treat, almost worth the mark of admission alone. The collection of episodes in and of themselves is pure gold.
Summed up, if you were ever a Star Blazers fan, give this (and Parts I, II, III & all the future volumes) a discover. It’s expansive for a go down memory lane. If you’ve NEVER seen Star Blazers, give it a try. It’s a cult classic from the 80’s (along with other Americanized anime greats like Robotech, Voltron, Transor Z, etc) . The animation may glance slightly dated, but the storyline aloof holds its beget very well against anything out there today. Due to petite distribution this exhibit may have slipped by the radar of a lot of people but it caught on like a fire with those who did gather it. Give it a search for and sight what all the rage was about.

This dvd is large. My son is a ample Caillou fan and he saw all the episodes in this dvd but the gigantic thing is those annoying puppets are not there, objective nonstop Caillou. Some parts of this dvd are also taken from the Caillou holiday movie. One more dvd for the collection!
A solid Caillou video that keeps my daughter entertained for as long as I let her discover it. There are no puppets, so I don’t need to be nearby to skip the skits and continue to Caillou cartoons.

Karate Kid is not what you may reflect it is. The premise of a young fatherless boy trying to survive a completely unusual environment is how this movie gets its humanity. For anyone who has ever had to proceed to a original town, be raised by only one parent, or face overwhelming odds, and almost everyone has done at least one of these, this movie can be related to on many levels. Ralph Macchio plays Daniel, a teenager from Recent Jersey who is forced to travel across the country with his mother and begin a original life in a foreign dwelling, California. Setting aside the differences between East & West cruise alone, there is plenty for him to realize. When faced with bullies that he doesn’t understand, he finds a friend in an unlikely place; Mr. Miagi, a Japanese handyman, played by Pat Morita, who’s hides many talents. To say Karate Kid is a narrative about over coming your apprehension is to say that life is fair a thing we do everyday. This movie mixes a friendship, a romance, a coming of age tale, gaining self confidence and learning to indulge in that which you may not understand correct away. After getting sufficiently beat up by the bullies more than once, Daniel enlists the back of Miagi and soon finds himself training for a tournament. This may seem bad, but Miagi knows it is a mighty safer set and a more controlled environment for Daniel to defend himself and acquire respect. Miagi’s training techniques are novel to say the least, and honest as Daniel begins to seek information from what is going on, he realizes that Migai really does know what he is doing. The myth is sterling and solid and allows sympathy for both sides of the characters. They acquire a void for each other, an sure father/son, mentor/student relationship. The chemistry between them is very solid. Elizabeth Shue is beneficial in her first major role, playing the sweet rich girl who sees Daniel for the person he is and not for his social area. Although sounding clichéd on the surface, this movie is well done and not superficial. The characters are very loyal, the emotions are deep and the scare of growing up with bullies hits home for many of us. The ending will have you cheering as Daniel moves his arrangement through the tournament to the final climatic ending. Highly recommended and highly keen.

The youth of today’s movie going generation will have a field day laughing at the funky eighties pop music, the tightly conventional jeans, and (I must admit) the depraved hair styles. Despite this, 20 years later, a lot can tranquil be learnt as its messages transcend across the boarder of time.
An everlasting masterpiece the whole family will devour, John G. Avildsen’s The Karate Kid, the new of the trilogy, is undoubtedly the standout.
Though a microscopic hackneyed and slightly predictable at times, it’s the relationship between Macchio’s and Morita’s finely tuned characters that collected produce this a heartfelt film, two decades after its cinema release.
It’s a shame Ralph Macchio can’t brush off that teen type cast. Struggling to secure adult roles because of his boy like features is unhappy as his acting ability is second to none.
It sadly seems he’ll forever be remembered as ‘The Karate Kid’. A enormous performance is somewhat to his detriment. Level-headed, only one word can characterize this movie, unforgettable…that’s for distinct!
Dim the lights, heat up the popcorn and like this timeless classic.

Hagiography is a perfect fit for what it seems was attempted with this movie. And Leonard deserves honest that, but done well. What is up with that queer noise the director hits us over the head with implying Leonard’s ‘mystic’ station? Is it wind? Music? Definately annoying and totally uncalled for. When Leonard speaks let the audience choose if what he is saying is profound/esoteric, etc without the parlor tricks. Geez. It made what was happening so amateurish (that ‘noise’) and cheapened the reality of what was being heard and seen.
The reverence by the performers was well represented. I didn’t considerable care for the cd that was born of this dvd. Many of the performances seemed too campy, as if they were competing for the best off-kilter interpretation of what are Leonard classics. It was infinately better to contemplate and listen as opposed to unprejudiced listening to the cd. Antony is the best exception to the ‘interpretive wars’ (behold my cd review for details) . He out shines all with “If It Be Your Will” honoring its unusual ambiance with his allege that fair makes you want to bawl and you don’t know why.
I know Leonard embraced Lian’s making of this fraction and I can utter she is truly enamoured of him and his talents, but the yarn is badly presented. The unfamiliar noises, the irregular spend of visuals and the camera actions fabricate you believe more about the ‘film’ being made instead of the order, like an annoying fingerprint showing up on each frame of the cloak. She should have remained invisible and let the epic jabber for itself.
I hope someone puts together a ‘hagiography’ of Leonard that does let him explain up without all the nonsense.
That said, win it! Leonard is in it. I will, despite all ogle it again.

The sound and narrate quality on these disks is astonishing. I’m truly blown away by it on my 1080p tv. Also, the aspect ratio of these episodes is different than the broadcast versions. On tv they chop off share of the sides, even though it is presented in widescreen on tv. The blu-ray episodes have an aspect ratio closer to the Films.
I’m really enjoying the extras they go into a lot of detail and elaborate some really wintry things. Also, some of the poor (jar jar and fart jokes) . The best fragment of the special features is getting to witness clips from the films in 1080i for the first time. I Cannot wait for that blu-ray boxset! The Jedi Archives special features are really savory too but for the understanding art you can’t consume things to zoom on which stinks if you have a tiny tv. Even on my 42″ some things are collected too cramped to peek as stout as I would like.
The box everything comes in is top quality too. It’s kind of like the whole thing is a book you launch it up there’s production notes and thought art in a booklet attached to the case. Disk 1 is on the front and the relieve has Disks 2 and 3 stacked on each other (like many boxsets do these days) .
Overall it’s a wonderful place that does exactly what it should. I wish there was a beefy commentary for the episodes but getting a 7min featurette per 20 tiny is a genuine replacement. Also, i wish there were chunky tedious the scenes features not fair ones for specific episodes. But they have all of that on the Clone Wars movie status so it’s understandable. Hopefully the Season Two station includes those kinds of things.
- PS: my first residence came with Disk 1 and 2 copies of Disk 2. But Amazon sent me the replacement and i got it within 24 hours so no afflict done.

Let me first location that I was completely unaware of the problems with playing these movies until I browsed through the Amazon reviews. It is disturbing to constantly hear of people who paid gracious money for their expensive players not being able to fully be pleased movies that are expected to play on them. However, I have not experienced any problems playing a Bluray movie ever and this review is only discussing my personal experience with this specific package.

The overall impression is of quality, inside and out. The box could be a petite smaller but the packaging is resplendent. There’s a transparent plastic lunge veil over a solid cardboard box holding a puny binder on which the 3 individual movie disks are pages. Each movie comes on one disk, holding the movie itself and in fabulous amount of extras.
The menu interface is well organized and there’s is even some humor in labeling. For example, the option that plays the movie is labeled ‘The Mission’ while the historic promotional material is found under ‘The Propaganda’. Depending on which fraction you may be, menu options branch into further sub-menus.
The extras are numerous and, for the most fragment spirited. The Dr. No disk, for example, has a very informative HD documentary on the restoration process and we score to learn who did what, why and how. Then, we observe 1962 trailers, a contemporary documentary on the making of the movie, a 1960’s interview with a gun specialist discussing the various James Bond handguns, even radio commercials.
The sound options include the modern sound which, in the older releases is ‘mono’ but all movies have surround 5.1 as the default. The sound wasn’t upgraded and improved to the degree that the relate was but, it’s understandable. Going from mono to 5.1 surround would be the equivalent of upgrading from dim and white to full-color 3-D in the world of images. The situation where some of the older installments demonstrate their age is the sound.
When it comes to the pictures, the best that I can say is that you’ve got to perceive it to enjoy it. The restoration of the older movies started with the right current negative, which is the one copy that’s almost never touched. Once the copy was digitized as a 4000 lines resolution digital copy (Bluray is 1080) every frame was reprocessed to eliminate any possible defects from ‘dirty optics’, such as the proverbial hair that we sometimes look on the older movies to scratches, abominable exposure, color brilliance. The restorers’ goal for the demolish result, and this concerns the video only, not the sound quality, was to order what would appear to be a contemporary movie with a 60’s or 70’s theme rather than a 60’s or 70’s movies. In my understanding, they succeeded.
My overall rating is a solid five-stars. Impartial about everything in this release is superlative: the physical packaging, the interface produce, the extras, the video quality. The sound is not so sterling on the older movies but, given the place of sound restoration technologies, I did not feel compelled to bewitch a star because the faded movies sounded more or less like they did on release date.
Please effect that and I am not factoring in player issues because, sooner or later, those are going to be addressed.
There will always be debates on who makes the best Bond, and this trilogy gives you a sampling of three strong contenders spanning 40+ years of Bond: Sean Connery in “Dr. No” - the film that started it all, Roger Moore in his first turn as Bond, “Live and Let Die” and Pierce Brosnan as 007 in “Die Another Day” the final film before the series “re-boot.”
When I save the “Dr. No” Blu-ray Disc into my player for the first time, my jaw hit the floor. The delectable detailed images that appeared on a expansive 1080p projection cloak looked more like a movie made last year than one made in 1962. The main reason the films gaze so helpful is that all twenty of the pre-Craig Bond movies were cleaned up and restored with ample care by Lowry Digital Images, using the current camera negatives. The first nine films (including “Dr. No” and “Live and Let Die” from this residence) were all scanned at a whopping 4K resolution, and the other eleven were re-mastered at chunky HD 1920×1080 resolution - a perfect fit for Blu-ray disc. While the 12 megapixel (4000×3000 pixel) mastering of the first nine films may seem like overkill, for 1080p high definition’s 2 Megapixel image, the results announce for themselves.
The sound is no swagger either, with the films re-mastered in lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 Surround (the modern mono or stereo track is also included on each of the older films, for the purists) . The producers went wait on to the unique master recordings, cleaned up the audio and created a truly immersive surround sound stage for each film. If you haven’t seen the early Bond movies before, then you’re in for a treat with these Bond classics on Blu-ray.
As to compatibility, it is essential to mark that some players (notably the Samsung BD-P1500 and LG BH200) do currently have playback problems on these discs. It’s critical to know that if you maintain one of these players. But this should not be a reflection on the software, unbiased because the player manufacturers have improperly implemented the Blu-ray specifications. Also, LG and Samsung have committed to providing firmware updates to fix any playback issues with these titles. Also, most of the unique generation players (including the newer Panasonic and Sony players with the latest firmware applied) have no problems playing these discs.

Of course, a television program, which is what this was before it was made into a DVD, is never going to have the kind of detail and cogency of a book. The book which was made for the series (or is it the other diagram round? ) contains a lot more information, and documentation of the propositions made by the author regarding the short-comings of Roman civilization. My review of the DVD is colored by the fact that I read the book before seeing the DVD, but this does not really invalidate my criticisms since reading the book has given me (at least I hope) a more complete narrate of what Mr. Jones was trying to say in the video.

Much of what the author says regarding the European barbarians (Goths, Vandals, and Celts) is not fresh, and has been known for mighty of the last two centuries. The kind of pro-Roman chauvinism to which Mr. Jones is so opposed largely went out with Edward Gibbon in the 18th century. It may be that they were tranquil teaching Gibbon when he was going to school. After all, he is kind of mature. I remember when I was in college having a professor who actually believed that the Roman fast primitive galley slaves, as was portrayed in Ben Hur. I tried to clarify to him that even Mommsen, aid in the 19th century, knew that was not the case, but he unbiased accused me of being credulous. I digress.
Still, there is a lot of very attractive recent archaeological information presented in the series, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I would recommend it to anyone involved in history of the period, with the caveat that Mr. Jones really has it in for the Romans, and he tends to stack the deck against them. I suspect he is descended from Boudicca, or at the very least was bullied by a classicist in school. The conception that the Roman contribution to western (and world) civilization is grossly overrated seems to be an obsession. In particular, I deem the belief that the Romans (and that all Romans in all periods had the same attitudes) view of the Greeks as barbarians is particularly outrageous. The emperor Hadrian is a specific contrary example, and he is by no means alone. Furthermore, while some Romans doubtless view of Parthians as at least unfriendly eastern foreigners, I doubt they were considered barbarians in the same sense as the Germanic tribes or even the Celts. The notion that a feudal political organization (Parthians/Persians) is somehow beneficial to a centralized spot with a national bureaucracy (Rome) betrays Mr. Jones’ medievalist roots.

Around 400 AD, two Barbarian babies were born. One would grow up to become the most feared of all - Attila the Hun. The other, Geiseric, led the Vandals whom history has cast as destroyers. Jones finds out that Roman civilization wasn’t destroyed by the invasion of these tribes, but by the loss of the North African tax contaminated. He sees the current opinion of Rome and “Barbarians” as a result of the Roman Catholic Church popularizing the Roman version of the truth.

Unfortunately, there seems to be some confusion about this video tape. This is not the classic film made during the war about the Battle of Midway, but rather this is one of the films
about notorious battles of World War II from the “Battlefield” series. This series gives a comprehensive notion of the battle from the point of thought of the upper echelons conducting the war. The battle is explained within its context as share the wider stragtegic issues of the war. A grand fragment of the film deals with the lead-up to the battle including discussion of the political and military leadership of the opposing sides, the weapons eager and the military action preceding the battle. In this film, the Battle of the Coral Sea is discussed in detail as a prelude to Midway. The Battle of Midway was an extremely complex engagement that is hard to follow even when reading detailed descriptions of the battle in books. This film makes the battle and its various components definite to the viewer. This film certainly made me savor the genius of naval air power commanders such as Halsey, Spruance, and Fletcher who had to travel around gargantuan numbers of ships and aircraft in both attack and defense at the same time. This series is highly recommended for someone who has more than unbiased a passing interest in the Second World War.
