Hung started about the same time as Accurate Blood season two. After the second episode I was bent! The main character is a high school history teacher and basketball coach whose house burns down, children want to live with his ex-wife and he’s broke broke broke. He meets up with a poet who he once (ahem) and together they hatch a harebrained procedure to pimp him and his … out. Through this he has to deal with women he isn’t attracted to but learns to treasure what’s under the skin, crazy women who pay for him but not his “services” and the working in’s and out’s of women. Meanwhile his pimp, Tanya, is suffering as a failed poet and drowning in her acquire lack of admire in her life. Bumps and bruises along the contrivance but every episode bring laughter and smiles to my face (and my husbands!) .

The characters learn and even though they glean a lot more terrible than genuine cards, they always grow. I’m very gratified with the direction this unique series is going and sit in anticipation every Sunday night when my cramped red dot that indicates my DVR is recording blinks on. Hung is a lot more than I had anticipated and am contented with the gem found under dirty gym socks and a slathering of sexual innuendo.

Wasn’t clear what to quiz from this besides the distinct. It seemed in the beginning that there was a lot to balance between the facade of the student admired, all around fine guy of Coach Ray Drecker and his cocky and at times infantile alter ego. Then you have hot mess, wanna be pimp Tonya who seems likes she’s one abominable hair day away from workplace homicide. But in the slay, it all somehow works and entices you to want to discover more. (It doesn’t damage Thomas Jane isn’t panicked to note his bum off alot!) It was HBO’s most watched freshmen reveal ever so I hope that means a 2nd season and beyond will be secured because watching these characters reach into their hold will be exciting!

Sadly I dont consider Cartoon Network plays these shows anymore so many kids may not know what this is. Adults will remember it though and it certainly is a point to the entire family can savor. The state of each episode is simple: eleven cars, each one a distinctly and fantastically customized vehicle (peep other reviews for the complete lineup) compete in car races throughout North America for the title of The World’s Wackiest Racer. The rules seem to be highly flexible: each car has distinct attributes that allow its owner(s) to earn the advantage from time to time, often in ways that would be considered unsporting in a real-life car speed. Despite this, Dick Dastardly and Muttley (voiced by Paul Winchell and Don Messick) composed utilize most of each hurry trying to regain through extremely define and badly-planned booby-traps (sometimes contributing heartily to their believe demise: in the very first episode, D.D. has the hasten in the bag until the narrator (Dave Willock) mentions “photo achieve” at which point Dastardly stops at mere INCHES from the achieve line to pose for a photo) .

There’s even a bit of irony: bumbling Peter Perfect’s Turbo Terrific falls apart constantly, while Dick Dastardly, whose Mean Machine is perhaps the fastest car of the lot, could have won a urge if he unprejudiced didn’t conclude to cheat.

The three-disc situation is colorfully packaged with nice artwork featuring a group shot of all the Wacky Racers in the foldouts. The discs themselves bear commentary on four episodes from illustrious personnel at HB and two featurettes detailing the history of WACKY RACES and a gawk at its spinoffs DASTARDLY AND MUTTLEY IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES and THE PERILS OF PENELOPE PITSTOP.

This package is a nicely conceived station, and showcases one of Hanna-Barbera’s most fondly remembered series; its release can only mean that more of HB’s finest is soon to near. (Warner Brothers: please re-read the above. AHEM.)

What has been said about the Shaded Knight cannot be elaborated on - so I won’t. The film is muscling its map into my #1 approved funny movie adaptation of all time.

The reason for my review is in hopes of saving you some money. This double disc Special Edition doesn’t notify the label you pay for it. There isn’t even deleted scenes!!! I would set aside your very hard earned dollars and assume the single disc version and wait for the inevitable ULTIMATE re-release that will near later on down the road.

But nonetheless, a expansive film - you will not be dissapointed; I fair wish the studio would have given a better Special Edition release than what we have here. So luxuriate in!

Christopher Nolan has a vision. And whether you agree with it or not, he undeniably completes it in “The Shadowy Knight”–a vicious, challenging, overwhelming, intellectual event- film that re-defines ‘comic-book-flicks’. In Nolan’s grim, dark-depiction of Gotham-City (the crime-ridden hell protected by legendary superhero Batman), the director strives to compose everything right (something he began in the well-received “Batman Begins”) . He makes it plausible, possible. And yet there’s more to it: honest as ‘Begins’ was a dissection of account, the nature of symbols and heroes, ‘Knight’ is the escalation of that belief. It’s a biblical- confrontation of ‘good-and-evil’, yet as ‘good-and-evil’ really exist: a conflict of ideals, something that can’t be purely-defined but that is relative to a viewpoint. In Nolan’s world, the line of villainy and heroism isn’t crossed… it’s non-existent. The bad-guys don’t scrutinize themselves as bad-guys, and as such something so unnervingly-real comes across it might glide past some people’s minds (no insult to anybody, it’s objective popular that people don’t glimpse deep into ‘popcorn-flicks’) : the battle is a complete ambiguity.

The film runs at nearly 2.5-hours, yet never ceases to lose interest or momentum. It doesn’t demolish a scene or moment; every event is utilized and indispensable. ‘The Dim Knight’ tells a myth worth telling and it takes the wonderful amount of time to pronounce it. Action-sequences are frantic, old-school, eye-grabbing stunts (vastly first-rate to ‘Begins’) and in their chaotic intensity we peep that they succor purpose to the tale, yet more animated are not played for pure entertainment-value: we are meant to examine, alarmed, simply hoping that the outcome will go the hero’s arrangement. Attention is never lost because we are immersed in a breathtaking, almost completely-unpredictable memoir (it packs many a shock), that makes us mediate and more importantly gains our emotional-investment. We reach to care for the characters, because they are believable, developed, and personified fully.

Everyone has great-chemistry together. Maggie Gyllenhal is a more conventional Rachel Dawes than Katie Holmes. Morgan Freeman provides his authoritative presence to the role of bad- gadget-inventor/Wayne-Enterprise CEO Lucius Fox, and under anyone else’s portrayal, the allotment would be less-memorable. Gary Oldman underplays his world-wearied lawman with such honest-nobility, you never feel for a second any of its forced-acting. The irreplaceable Michael Caine makes a gentle, reassuring, father-like presence as Alfred, and the movie would surely fail without his strong-presence and interjected-moments of light-humor.

And while everyone (rightfully) pours the praise unto Bale and Ledger, I judge most are glancing-over Knight’s breakout-performance. As Harvey Dent, Aaron Eckhart does more than gain himself in the company of such a renowned-cast. He makes his presence known, whether he’s playing on the easy-going charisma of Gotham’s ‘White-Knight’ or the broken and damaged, twisted-soul of Two-Face. He achieves a full-impact with the tragedy that comes unto his character, and so closely connects with Dent, that he makes his harm tangible for us: we sympathize even as we become scared. He captures both facets of each personality flawlessly.

Now, some people cite that ‘Knight’ has a potential fatal-flaw in the supposedly wooden- acting of Christian Bale. Admittedly, his development is not as mountainous as in ‘Begins’ (yet that film gave us such a sterling psychoanalysis of Wayne, we hardly need more), yet what Bale pulls off is admirable. Wayne is not an eccentric personality. He is a disillusioned man who can hardly glean any joy in having no family, giving up his love-interest and spending his life fighting a battle that may never demolish. He’s dismal and conflicted, and Bale plays up on that brooding-mood by making Wayne contemplate as though a thousand dark-things were on his mind. He’s not wooden…he’s a humorless, unexcited individual. Even when Wayne is acting as a frivolous playboy for the public, every now and then Bale offers us a worthy gaze that reminds us its all a façade; that deep down, something more frightened irks him. Occasionally he offers a broken-smile when exchanging banter with Alfred, letting us know that beyond the dour depression of the Caped-Crusader lies a damaged human-being. It is only in the guise of a growling masked-man, that he can unleash his just, ferocious personality.

Finally, who could forget Heath Ledger. Now, when he was first-announced for the allotment, I was (along with many other people) asking myself: “Why? “. Mr. Ledger had proved with ‘Brokeback Mountain’ he could reveal a potent performance. But he hadn’t before. It is only, after seeing this film, that I know the retort to ‘why? ‘: I glimpse the significance of his loss.

When Heath appears in this movie, he is completely unrecognizable. His express is distinctly-altered; a near-whiny, pedophile-like tone that sends shivers down the spine. His face is completely splattered with makeup that renders him both freakishly-nightmarish and strangely-funny. And when you sight him, you don’t deem it’s him. In this, his final performance, Ledger proved he was a chameleon. His two iconic performances in this, and ‘Brokeback’, could not be more different. The movie writes the character brilliantly; blending ugly truth into his every social-accusation, and making us ask why we laugh at his sick-jokes.

‘The Unlit Knight’ has had an incredible-amount of hype running for it, from the get-go, mounting ever-higher, until Heath Ledger’s too-soon death. And the finished-product does more than exceed all of the near-impossible expectations placed on it. It becomes something powerful richer than a super-hero-franchise-saga. Christopher Nolan has opened a original door in cinema: allowing action-flicks to become more serious, satisfactory of intelligence. He has transformed this into a section of artwork, fat of beauty, scare, moral-conundrums. This movie has changed things…forever.

Somebody once said that “life” is what happens when you’re not looking. And it’s so upright. Too often we let the years fling by, and the essential things prance fair along with them; and it’s only when something happens that we originate to pay attention, and by then it’s too behind to do anything about it. The generous news, however, is that as long as you’re quiet breathing there’s unruffled a chance to create amends, or at least try to. You can try, not to produce up for past mistakes (and we’ve all made them), but to build “today” count, which is what a man at a particular juncture in his life discovers and sets out to do, in “Life As A House,” directed by Irwin Winkler, and starring Kevin Kline.

George Monroe (Kline) is an architect, a man who can do anything, with the exception of that which is the most important: His believe life. He has a failed marriage– now divorced for ten years from Robin (Kristin Scott Thomas) — a failed relationship with his now sixteen-year-old son, Sam (Hayden Christensen), he’s getting on in years and he’s miserable, which is driven home by circumstances enthralling his job and his health that form him abruptly sit up and grasp behold. His “house,” literally and figuratively, in not in order. And he decides to do something about it. He’s definite to fling down his former house and rebuild a novel one, and he begins by arranging for Sam to arrive and live with him for the summer. And it will be a summer that will affect, not only George and Sam, but Robin, and a number of others, as well; a summer in which the trivial things of life are build on hold; and for once, the valuable things are embraced.

Working from a well written and insightful screenplay (by Stamp Andrus), Winkler delivers a drama that is thoughtful and poignant (at times, even poetic), wonderfully acted and beautifully filmed by cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond. Rich in metaphor, it’s an fascinating film that works on a number of levels, and will appeal to a wide audience– many of whom will describe to George and his place, others who will identify with Sam; and for some, it may hit strikingly too end to home. Whatever your personal state is, it will topple somewhere within the emotional arc Winkler creates here; and if it doesn’t now, it will eventually. Because, as this film so trenchantly points out, “life” happens. And the most vital thing is sparkling what to do with it– if not the first time around, then at least before it’s too behind.

He received an Oscar for his portrayal of Otto in the comedy “A Fish Called Wanda,” but Kevin Kline decidedly hits his ride in dramatic roles: As Nathan in “Sophie’s Choice,” Mack in “Gigantic Canyon” or Ben in “The Ice Storm,” for example; and now here, as George Monroe. Kline brings George believably to life, with a performance that hints at who George was, but most importantly tells us who he is now. With understated subtly, he conveys his inner-most feelings in a intention that enables the audience to execute that all-important emotional connection with the character. He makes you feel as though you know him; and once you do, and once you meet Robin, it’s hard to understand what went depraved between them all those years ago. One can only select that somewhere along the line youth and a lack of focus took it’s toll– understandable in a world that bombards us daily with endless stimuli. And it’s one of the subtle perspectives that makes this film so effective.

Kristin Scott Thomas gives a convincing performance, as well, as Robin, a woman who has moved on with her life, but in whom you can discern a clear dissatisfaction with her original position. On the surface, her life seems proper, but we study through her portrayal that it is collected lacking in some regard. She seems cheerful to some extent, but it’s more like the unfulfilled happiness that comes when one has “settled” for something. You gather the sense that what she has with her original husband, Peter (Jamey Sheridan), is somehow less than what she had with George, at least at some point or other. Thomas does a generous job of indicating the complexities of her character, dipping beneath the surface to design what could have been a one-note character alive and gripping.

One of the true rewards of this film, however, is found in the wonderfully affecting performance of young Hayden Christensen, as Sam. With but a few TV appearances and a handful of unremarkable films to his credit (the exception being a allotment in Sophia Coppola’s “The Virgin Suicides”), Christensen is virtually an unknown, but comes through with some extremely impressive work here. He not only finds, but manages to divulge, that turmoil of confusion and need for personal identity that every teenager experiences, and he presents it quite naturally and effectively. There’s nothing feigned or pretentious about him; the Sam he delivers comes from somewhere deep down inside, and working from the inside out makes him very proper and believable. It’s a performance that should jump-start his career, which is about to be catapulted into high gear/high profile area when “Star Wars: Episode 2, Attack of the Clones” hits the conceal, in which he plays the role of Anakin Skywalker. And because of the magnitude of that film and all that goes along with it, he will never receive the acclaim he deserves, no matter how reliable a job he does in it; so it’s valuable that he has this film under his belt, which demonstrates what a truly gifted young actor he really is, a fact that may be overlooked once “Clones” hits (which is what happened to Leonardo DiCaprio after “Mammoth”) . And Christensen’s performance here is a astronomical fraction of what makes “Life As A House” a winner.

Life as a House is not the most fresh movie you’ll ever glimpse, but for what it is, it’s incredible. George, Kevin Klein’s character, is living a unfortunate life when the movie begins. He is divorced from his ex-wife who he quiet loves; estranged from his 16 year-old son, who is gloomy and using drugs; and hates his home, a shack on a fine cliff in Malibu. Then one day George visits his ex-wife, who asks him to retract their son, Sam, for the summer; loses his job; and finds out he has only a few months to live. George decides to scuttle down the shack, which his dad willed to him and he hates, and effect a house he’ll be proud to give his son. He tells his ex he’ll seize Sam for the summer, so that they can relieve each other, and tells no one of his cancer. The scenery and cinematography in this movie alone accomplish it worth seeing. There are breathtaking scenes from the cliff in Malibu, as well as from the ex-wife’s encourage yard; and that’s where most of the movie takes location. The myth may not be a recent one, but it is glorious. There are some seemingly unnecessary sub-plots I could’ve done without, and some of the characters needed more dept or explaining, but the main characters feel like people you’ve known for years. The movie is a petite over 2 hours, but does not move throughout, a tremendous feat considering it’s a drama, and doesn’t try to be anything more. This movie won’t challenge you, but would be nice for a quite evening out; it needs to be seen on a grand shroud. I recommend it.

First off, let me fair say that I am a fan of the “Underworld” franchise and I do deem that Kate Beckinsale is one of the most aesthetic women on the planet. Plus, I am also a sucker for tales about vampires and werewolves. That said, this newest installment of the franchise “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans” doesn’t have the previous two films’ director, (although Len Wiseman peaceful has credits for the narrative) and the absence of Beckinsale is of course to be expected (she is also married to Len Wiseman) considering that this film is a prequel and has taken dwelling before Selene’s timeline. Seems like Hollywood have listened to the “cries” of die-hard fans of the franchise, and delivered a fun installment in a gothic period.

The werewolves looked very corrupt and feral, even downright dirty, while the vampires have those blue contact lenses and wears appreciate medieval armor. The screenplay does finish factual to the mythos of the unusual, but it also nicely blends hyper-kinetic violence, with a Shakespearean “Romeo and Juliet”, medieval backdrop in quite a unusual fantasy film about the roots of the struggle between the mythological creatures. This prequel does choose a life of its hold, and while fans are in very familiar territory, the film doesn’t exactly alienate original viewers.

The filmmakers does quit within the style and feel of the current film with the shadowy cinematography, bluish muted color schemes and the action sequences carry quite a bit in blood and gore elements–and those scenes are nicely placed. The action in “Rise of the Lycans” consists mostly of swordplay–beheadings are aplenty, limbs are torn and bodies are mutilated. Amid the CGI generated location designs, I was somewhat ecstatic that this prequel didn’t exactly compose upon the franchise’s past mistakes but it develops a unique angle on the “Underworld” mythos. There are familiar characters to be seen in the film, and there are subtle hints of things to near. The film also enforces a gothic element that wasn’t fully realized in the first sequel, and the screenplay does give room for its performers to have touches of melodrama, complete with very frigid, touchy posturing.

I supposed the film’s main strength will have to reach from the effective performance of its cast. Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy does give a very heartfelt performance. Their chemistry as leaders of opposite sides are very nice to be privy to, as their interactions point to to be the film’s central focus–a excellent travel by the director since it proves to be a credible status blueprint to pick up the franchise’s established formulas and romantic tragedies’ groundwork. Rhona Mitra is a refreshing presence and proves convincing enough as Sonja, the one major catalyst for rebellion of the Lycans. Of course, fans of the franchise knew exactly what happened to her, and the film objective fleshes out her relationship between Lucian, her father and the other vampires.

The film also touches on the vampires relationship with the humans living during this time, and as to how the humans managed to become the dominant species in our show time. The Vampires coven’s “Death Dealers” were supposedly the guardians of the human populace, who protect them from the beastly werewolves. Apparently, werewolves are those infected with no ability to change abet to human effect, and in this manner the commentary on social set is reinforced. Werewolves are to be killed on contemplate while Lycans are former as slaves. There is also some commentary on the politics of this mythical world, vampires rule, Lycans befriend and humans provide silver. Werewolves are the outcasts. The vampires would do anything to bear onto their power defective.

“Underworld Rise of the Lycans” may indeed be better than “Evolution” and the film does succeed as being a passionate period panic adventure. There is very cramped window of opportunity to further fabricate on its mythos and it does do so quite well. The film’s weakness may well be that being a prequel, it is difficult to offer that many surprises, if there are any at all. The film is a fun experience and highly attractive to fans and even to those not familiar with the franchise. “Underworld Rise of the Lycans” is a bloody, stylish, visceral, melodramatic installment to further earn the war between vampires and werewolves. It awakens the senses that this franchise is very mighty alive, and left me wanting more.

Seeing fresh movies these days is a challenge with a very active toddler. When Valentine’s Day came around, we dropped our son off with my parents and I let my wife assume the movie. She of course picked the “vampire movie.” Which is why I fancy my wife.

As a colossal fan of Kate Beckinsale and the World of Darkness role-playing game, the Underworld series snappily became a celebrated. It featured enormous budget special effects, lots of PVC and leather, and plenty of pouty vampires. It also featured a battle between vampires and werewolves, a belief that was so prominent in White Wolf’s World of Darkness series that it sparked a lawsuit.

Despite the lawsuit, Underworld continues to forge its absorb path, such that it now has prequels. You know your movie franchise has made it when executives are willing to pay to beget what is essentially a history book. Fortunately, this bit of history is actually worth watching.

Werewolves and vampires have always been a bit of a mixed bag in Hollywood. The fact that Dracula could turn into a wolf seems to be one of the less plausible aspects of vampirism that were dropped in favor of the Ricean pouty goth. Thus the ability to transform into a wolf is exclusively the domain of the werewolf. But it wasn’t always this method.

The vrykolakas, draws its name from “vryk,” meaning “wolf” and lakas, meaning “fur” in recent Slavic languages clearly meant “werewolf.” Vrykolakas in other countries, however, is old to portray vampires. This is because of the aforementioned ability of a vampire to turn into a wolf, which can be strictly interpreted as meaning that all vampires are actually werewolves.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans turns this confusion into a dwelling. In short, vampires and werewolves are descended from the same bloodline, but the vampires have risen to the role of aristocrat while werewolves are microscopic more than beasts. Or at least, that’s what the vampires enjoy. To that demolish, Viktor (Bill Nighy) the vampire lord treats domesticated werewolf Lucian (Michael Sheen) as his foster son, giving him blacksmith duties that ensure werewolves don’t transform with inward-pointing spiked collars. But Viktor’s benevolence has limits, and when he discovers that Lucian is having a dalliance with his daughter Sonja (the savory Rhona Mitra, who mild isn’t quite Beckinsale but comes ravishing darn cessation), he teaches Lucian a poor lesson. What Viktor underestimates is the kinship that Lucian has with his wilder brethren, a kinship that will spark class warfare.

Rise of the Lycans is basically what you pick up when you give a serious goth injection to the elves from Lord of the Rings, rehash the region from Romeo and Juliet, and rob the feudal plan of vampires and their human “cattle” from the World of Darkness series. Nobody speaks in contractions. Everything is viewed through a unlit blue lens. And lots of limbs collect hacked off.

The actual tale here is the werewolves. It’s their class struggle, after all, and the movie never shies away from the dire consequences of the characters’ actions. There is a high enough body count on both sides to acquire Shakespeare proud.

Vampires. Werewolves. Vampires and werewolves killing each other. Two star-crossed lovers run by their family allegiances and the curse of their blood. What more could you ask for in a Valentine’s Day date movie?

this dvd is more like a television explain than a movie. its a bunch of short movies. its kinda like that spike jonz dvd. i liked most of the movies. they were different and not what i expected. once i understood what was going on, it was a lot more laughable. if this guy fd ever makes a feature it will be dazzling trippy. i adore the gorilla style`footage. some nice shots in the ny subways and around the city. amusing stuff. very creative kids. i could gawk this getting titanic. will bewitch the next fdtv dvd when released.

I agree, this movie could have been better… but then again, can’t everything be better? I don’t know what that guy means by saying none of the movies were amusing. Are you crazy? This movie is hilarious! I agree, some of it is slapstick comedy, but it is definately something different. Did you not inspect through the whole DVD? FD was in high school when he made some of the movies! This is an independent movie. It is not a multi-million dollar Hollywood movie. I don’t peep how you could give this DVD 1 star. This movie was comic for what it was worth. My 19 year archaic son found most parts of the DVD funnier than me. I really assume this kid FD did a beneficial job though. I’ll be looking out for the next volume.

Ninja Scroll is an noble work of anime and cannot be praised too highly, but the current 10th Anniversary DVD edition only offers only a deceptive widescreen - they have merely gash off the top and bottom of the plan to give the appearance of widescreen. The DTS sound is not any fuller or crisper than the fresh fullscreen DVD, merely converted to DTS format. In short, this DVD is not worth upgrading to, and the fullscreen side is the only one worth watching. Achieve your money if you hope to improve on the modern DVD’s quality - the fresh anniversary DVD is actually an insult.

First, regarding its name: a more factual translation from the modern Japanese would be “The Chronicles of Ninja Jubei.”

Second, regarding the “misogynism” in the film: While I understand how it might be interpreted that contrivance, that’s not quite proper. Kagero is a lively character due to the tragedy of her curse. She plays a pivotal role in the memoir, but most importantly, the ultimate point of the fancy subplot is that Jubei’s sense of honor is so strong and his heart is so pure that he will not expend her as unbiased a weapon or an object of lust, the plan everyone else has mature her. Even at the cost of his life (you will understand when you observe it) . That’s what makes it such a worthy narrative.

This movie isn’t for everyone, but it’s an amazing film. It’s extremely intense, so sensitive viewers should beware. The animation is beautiful; the action is intense and intelligently choreographed, not mindless and brutal; the space is highly intricate and very well written.

Quinn Mallory ( Jerry O Connel) is trying to originate an anti-gravity contrivance and accidentally creates a way that opens up a portal. His physics professor Maximillian P. Arturo (John Rhys-Davies), and his girlfriend Wade Wells (Sabrina Lloyd) want to accompany Quinn through the portal to eye where it leads. A washed up singer named Rembrant Brown (Cleavant Derricks) is also accidentally dragged along for the whisk, when he is walking seize and sucked through the portal with them. Quinn and the rest of the group “go” to another dimension of earth. The Sliders soon realize that they would remarkable rather return wait on to their occupy dimension, but things are not that easy. Once you have entered through the portal, you have to maintain traveling to different dimensions of earth to catch the proper one that will lead succor home. Each episode deals with Quinn, Professor Arturo, Wade, and Rembrant exploring each dimension to score their procedure help to their contain dimension. Unfortunately, once the Sliders have entered a particular dimension, there is only a itsy-bitsy amount of time to reopen the portal, and there are only a few acquire places within each dimension they can do it from. Finding the true area to inaugurate the portal is often a challenge to the group because each dimension is different than their contain, and can be life threatening at times.

I have heard people often refer to Sliders as a rip off of Quantum Leap. While Quantum Leap was a better indicate, Sliders is completely different.
